Glyceryl Tributyrate
SUNWAY
Glyceryl Tributyrate, also known as Glycerol Triacetate, is a short-chain fatty acid ester with the chemical formula C₁₅H₂₆O₆, belonging to the class of triglyceride organic compounds. It appears as a white, oily liquid with almost no odor and a faint fatty aroma. It is readily soluble in ethanol, chloroform, and diethyl ether, but extremely insoluble in water (0.010%). It occurs naturally in beef tallow. This substance is produced by the esterification reaction of glycerol and butyric acid under acidic catalysis. Its digestive mechanism in animals is similar to that of lipids. Its physicochemical properties include a melting point of -75°C, a boiling point of 305–310°C, and a relative density of 1.0320. When heated, it decomposes releasing irritating fumes. Industrially used in food production, soap manufacturing, and as a solvent, it serves primarily as a feed additive in animal husbandry. It is hydrolyzed by pancreatic lipase into butyric acid and glycerol. Butyric acid provides energy to intestinal mucosal cells, promotes proliferation and differentiation, inhibits harmful bacteria, and enhances nutrient absorption.
