Naturally Fermented Calcium Propionate VS Chemically Synthesized Calcium Propionate

Introduction of Calcium propionate E282

Calcium propionate is a new type of food additive, approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) as a safe and reliable preservative for food and feed.

Advantages of Calcium propionate E282

As a new type of food preservative, Calcium propionate has many advantages compared to other preservatives.

Firstly, it is high in effective calcium content and good solubility. It not only preserves food, but also has a calcium supplementation effect. The solubility of calcium propionate has been experimentally proven to be about ten times that of calcium gluconate. Its high solubility confirms that calcium propionate has a strong advantage in calcium absorption.

Secondly, calcium propionate can not only extend the shelf life of food and act as a food preservative, but it can also be absorbed by the human body through metabolism, supplementing the necessary calcium for the body, which is incomparable to other preservatives. The advantages of this aspect have also established that calcium propionate is more marketable and favored by people compared to other food preservatives.

Then calcium propionate has good water solubility, fast dissolution rate, and clear and transparent solution. The calcium solvent dissolved in calcium propionate is more conducive to absorption. Calcium propionate has outstanding anti-corrosion and fresh-keeping properties. Calcium propionate, as a food preservative, has significant anti-corrosion and preservation properties, which can help extend the shelf life of food. It is an ideal food preservative. At present, calcium propionate is mainly synthesized by direct reaction of propionic acid and calcium hydroxide or calcium carbonate in China. This method has high energy consumption, high cost, and high pollution. There are few reports in China on the production of calcium propionate through fermentation. The present invention uses microbial fermentation to produce propionic acid, using seafood shells as calcium sources. The pre treated calcium source is directly added to the fermentation broth to produce calcium propionate. The process is simple, low in energy consumption, and pollution-free. At the same time, it helps to solve the serious pollution problem caused by seafood shells in coastal areas.

Applications of Calcium propionate

natural calcium propionate

1. Calcium propionate can be used as an antifungal agent for food and feed, and as a preservative for bread and pastries. Calcium propionate is easy to mix evenly with flour, serving as a preservative and providing essential calcium for the human body, thus strengthening food.

2. Calcium propionate has an inhibitory effect on fungi and aerobic spores that can produce sticky substances in bread, but has no inhibitory effect on yeast.

3. It is effective against fungi, aerobic spore producing bacteria, gram-negative bacteria, etc. in starch, protein and oil containing substances, and has unique anti mold and anti-corrosion properties.

4. It is a new and safe, broad-spectrum food and feed antifungal agent used in food, brewing, feed, and traditional Chinese medicine preparations.

5. Calcium propionate can effectively inhibit feed mold and prolong the shelf life of feed. When combined with other inorganic salts, it can also increase the appetite of livestock and increase milk production in cows. Calcium propionate has low volatility, high temperature resistance, and good animal adaptability, making it suitable for various feed uses.

6. Calcium propionate can also be used as an additive in toothpaste and cosmetics, playing a good anti-corrosion role.

Difference between natural calcium propionate and chemically synthesized calcium propionate1. Different raw materials for production: Biological fermentation of calcium propionate is prepared using natural raw materials, while chemical synthesis of calcium propionate is based on the extraction of petroleum chemicals.

2. Different production processes: Biological fermentation of calcium propionate is produced using anaerobic metabolism at room temperature and pressure, while chemical synthesis of calcium propionate is produced and processed using high-temperature and high-pressure chemical synthesis.

3. Different production capacity consumption: Biological fermentation of calcium propionate through liquid deep fermentation is more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. The production process of chemically synthesized calcium propionate is high in energy consumption and pollution.
