Bacillus licheniformis is a Gram-positive, spore-forming bacterium that is widely distributed in nature, particularly in soil and on bird feathers. Like Bacillus subtilis, it forms highly resilient endospores that allow it to withstand the high temperatures of feed pelleting, long-term storage, and the acidic environment of the animal stomach. This robustness guarantees that a sufficient number of viable bacteria reach the animal's intestine to exert their beneficial effects.
