Tetrasodium EDTA is the tetrasodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). It is a white, crystalline, and highly water-soluble powder. Its core function stems from its unique molecular structure, which acts as a multidentate ligand-essentially a "multi-clawed" molecule. It forms extremely stable, water-soluble complexes (chelates) with di- and trivalent metal ions. By binding these ions, it effectively sequesters or "locks them up," preventing them from participating in undesirable chemical reactions within a formulation. In daily chemical products, these uncontrolled metal ions are one of the main culprits leading to the decline in product stability, reduced efficacy, discoloration of appearance, precipitation and even spoilage. The role of EDTA-4Na is to eliminate these negative effects fundamentally.
